In a month or so, the temperatures will fall along with the remaining autumn leaves, so what better way to keep the chill away than with the warm and spicy notes of a winter fragrance? Instead of replacing your usual perfume, experiment and blend in with Mother Nature – melt Jack Frost and breeze through winter smelling fresh and crisp! I’ve selected some top brands, all sharing warming ingredients, notes that create a personal ambience of warmth and comfort.
Classique Autumn Winter – Jean-Paul Gaultier
Like the title suggests, Classique Autumn Winter is a perfect elegant fragrance come winter. The Jean-Paul Gaultier fragrance house launched Classique Autumn Winter in 2006. The opening top notes of rose and star anise compliment the spicy and fruity middle notes of African orange flower and ginger. To round off this fragrance, base notes of vanilla and amber add warmth and tie this up as a classy perfume perfect for winter evenings out.
Winter Kiss – Naomi Campbell
Aptly titled, Winter Kiss, on initial smell immediately communicates warmth and spice. Top notes of bergamot, star anise and pink pepper open this scent off with the promise of something warmer. At its heart, a trio of Butterfly orchid freesia and jasmine beat out floral tones, making way for cosy base notes of vanilla, musk, sandalwood and cedar.
Pierre Cardin Pour Femme Winter Edition
This is the winter edition of the original Pour Femme. It opens in clouds of sweet and fruity tones of bergamot, jasmine and pineapple. The heart encompasses a land of floral delight, notes of violet, freesia, peony and caramelized apple setting the tone for warm and sensual base notes of vanilla, patchouli, musk, cedar and sweet apricot. The bottle has remained the same shape as previous editions, its glittering embellishments a true celebration of winter.
Calvin Klein – Euphoria
Launched in 2005, this exotic and fruity scent has been a great success from one of the leading fragrance houses in the world. Euphoria is a luminous and luscious aroma, the smell of walking through an orchard. Mysterious and appealing, it’s like peering into a dark well and discovering an exotic flower at the bottom. Fresh notes of rose hip, Japanese apple, green leaves, Lotus and black orchid are married with warmer notes of red woods, black violet and amber. You can’t go wrong with Calvin Klein; all their seasonal fragrances hit the mark, and Euphoria is no exception during the colder months.
These are just a few examples of fragrances suited to a colder climate in the vast array of scents on offer, so I hope you’ve taken some inspiration and experiment with winter perfumes this year – float along on an ambient cloud of warmth until next spring, when I’ll be back with some tips on blending in with Mother Nature again.
