MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer Review
I can’t write this post without Taylor Swift’s ‘Its a Love Story’ whirling around my head. Not a bad thing, I love that song! But not really make-up (concealer) relevant. But this post is to take a look at my story with one of the most loved concealer from MAC.
Just keep reading to find out if this one is a love or hate story…
Price : US – $18 , India – Rs 1300
Quantity : 10 ml
Shelf Life : 3 years
Product Details ( by MAC ) : Liquid camouflage for the skin. Texture-free, virtually invisible. Comes in a tube. Blends in. Brightens and lightens dark areas, erases spots, evens-out skin tones. Makes skin flaw-free. Use pre-foundation, or on its own.
My Thoughts ?
I don’t really suffer from dark under eye circles, but of course I do look better with a touch of under eye concealer. The urge to find something better for me and my readers took me to MAC.
MAC Select Cover-Up concealer comes in a tube and the packaging is totally hygenic and travel friendly. You get 10mL of product which can last for nearly 4 months even if you use it daily. I think you get a really good deal for the money you pay for. This is a concealer with medium coverage. One layer is enough to cover my blemishes and under-eye circles. Two layers gives medium to heavy coverage of my liking without ever looking cakey. Its perfect for matured and dry skin since the formula is moisturising and you don’t need extra under-eye cream. I use it when I don’t have any time to do full face makeup. During my winter vacation in Boston I used it everyday and it instantly became my winter must have. I adore the silky smooth texture, even if Select Cover-Up does take a good 3-4 mins to set completely. This is one concealer that I find actually works best underneath foundation, so try applying it before you apply liquid foundation to the rest of your face. It suits my sensitive skin and never ever resulted in any breakout or reaction.
Shades Available and How To Find Your Match : 11 shades available. NC for yellow undertones and NW for pink undertones. If you have a clear skin or light under-eye darkness go for a shade that is one tone lighter than your skin. Those with medium to severe dark circles should go for a shade that matches their skin tone.
My Shade :
Initially it was too difficult to find my right shade (because of the wide shade range) but after testing 3 to 4 shades I finally got NC 35 which blends perfectly into my skin, specially when I’m tan during summer. NC 30 will be my next purchase for winter.
Coverage :
It covers just about everything for me: under eye dark circles, acne scars, zits and general redness. Doesn’t crease under the eyes which is a huge plus for me. It provides a good medium coverage but it won’t provide opaque coverage for those with severe darkness in the under-eye region. For those with minor to average dark under-eyes circles, this should do the trick. Personally the coverage is 5/5 for me.
Here’s a mini experiment to show how well it covers. I have made a mark with a jet black eyeliner and concealed it with two layers of MAC Select Cover-Up.
Texture and Formula :
Texture wise, it is very light and creamy (not watery) – not too thick and definitely not heavy. Its super light, so would work really well for under the eyes, especially the yellow toned NC shades help to correct any dark circles. The formula blends seamlessly with the skin, making these a dream to apply and use for a effective coverage. The formula is extremely lightweight and very comfortable, looks amazing in the under-eye region and around the mouth. Feels super light even after setting with powder. Because it blends so well with the texture of skin, MAC Select Cover-Up is the best concealer to mask acne scars and blemishes.
Finish :
Finish is satin smooth and natural hence amazing for all skin types. You just require a small pea size amount to conceal your flaws. You can skip foundation if you like subtle and natural make-up look.
Staying Power :
It stays on my face whole day without creasing or irritating my skin. I do set my makeup with a good translucent powder specially during summer. Without any powder or primer it can stay upto 8 hours on a normal day and 5 hours on a hot/humid day.
EOTD –
Overall,
A little goes a long way, it melts into the skin without looking cakey or settling into lines. The lightweight formula and natural satiny finish makes it perfect for everyday use.
Summary –
Texture : Creamy
Finish : Satin , Natural Looking.
Formula : Lightweight
Coverage : Medium
Staying Power : 8 hours
Final Verdict : If you like your concealer light, natural and effective, then you will fall in love with MAC Select Cover-Up concealer. You just need to find a right shade for you.

Great review Shreya, this concealer is really impressive but my all time favorite is Ellis Faas concealer especially for hiding the redness under my eyes. I think that is the best concealer for under eyes. I would love to try Mac concealer too <3

It’s good that it’s lightweight and doesn’t go cakey. I personally haven’t tried this one, but I am a big fan of MAC’s Pro Longwear concealer. That one is a lot heavier though.
