Ever since Matte Lip creams were launched, Greedy Me has always wanted to get my hands on them! Various factors like accessibility in India (at that time), price points, extra shipping charges etc. kept me away from them constantly (Yes, I’m kanjoos like that!). But like Mata Mads Dixit says in ‘Dil toh Pagal hain’ – “Bhagwan ne sab liye, kisi na kisi ko banaya hain”, I hoped and prayed that one of our Indian brands gets a brain-wave soon and makes something like that in India.
Bhagwan did exactly that & the Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Creams were made for me! (Well, not exactly for me, but for Budget lipstick junkies like me!). To know more about these, read on…
Product details – It’s not lipstick nor is it gloss. It’s like nothing that you have experienced before. It’s lipstick that goes on smoothly but looks matte.
Price – Rs.399/- each online (for our readers only INR 250)
My Experience –
Let me tell you how I collected these- Two of these came to me as a Birthday gift, I picked one up from Pune on my trip there & the last two I picked up recently from a Cosmetics store in my city.
Now, to answer the question that must be on your minds right now – – Are these dupes for the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams? Well, the range has lovely shades that are extremely similar to the NYX range, but I won’t call them ‘Dupes’. They are slightly different & I’ll tell you how, a little later. Right now, I’m here to introduce to you the shades I own, so here goes….
I own the following shades – no.01, no.10, no.12, no.15 & no.18. I haven’t owned 5 different shades of same brand….everrrr! So now you know how much I love these!! The only drawback is that these shades have numbers & no names however for me, it really doesn’t matter if my lipstick has a fancy name or not.
Left to Right – no.10 (a deep Red), no.01 (a warm Orange), no.12 (a bright Fuchsia-like pink), no.18 (a Mauve with brown undertones) & at the bottom no.15 (a Mauve with pink undertones, a little lighter than no.18).
Pardon the slightly oily skinned pics, there was a major power cut when I was preparing for the pic and my combination-skin Beauties know what happens, when that happens sigh **
Shade No.10 – this shade is a deep Red with slightly pink tones. One look at this and it became my Budget Ruby Woo… ahem…only until I get my hands on the REAL thing. The shade wakes my face up like it’s had 8 cups of coffee LOL. A Va-Va-Voom kinda shade, this one’s my absolute No.1 favorite from this range!!
Shade No.01 – This is a warm Orange shade. In fact, I think this is the only Orange in the whole range. I usually pair this one with Casuals on a Sunday brunch or an afternoon shopping trip. I feel the natural light during the day, brings out its true colour.
Shade No.12 – My 2nd favourite from these, this shade is vibrant & very Fuchsia-ish. It’s a pink that all skin tones would love. It goes well with outfits of any colour & is a great ‘go-to’ when you aren’t in the mood for a bold lip, yet wish to wear something nice & bright.
Shade No.18 – A Mauve with brown undertones, is how I’d describe the shade. I don’t gravitate towards browns anymore and this is the closest I will get to a brown. It’s something I wear when I have done up my eyes and I want the lips to be simple.
Shade No.15 – My ‘MLBB (My Lips But Better)’ shade! It’s a simple and beautiful Mauve shade which can be worn as a lovely neutral lipstick. It’s pretty similar to the no.18, but brighter without the brown undertones. The good part about this one is that this can be worn as a stain since it’s not as deeply pigmented as the other shades.
Shades- With the shades and hand & lip swatches for each posted here, Take Your Pick, Ladies! Easy on the pocket, you’ll love the shade range that spans from nudes (which I didn’t pick up) to absolutely gorgeous deep reds and pinks.
Texture / Formula – The texture is creamy & light. It’s an easy to use formulation that dries to a semi-matte finish in about 90 seconds. Once dried, it’s comfortable to wear throughout the day. It’s slightly transferable and tends to fade after light meals. The formula & texture of these is very similar to the NYX Matt lip creams.
Pigmentation- The pigmentation is medium & the great thing is that, its buildable. It doesn’t need tons of layering to show true colour, nor is it so insanely pigmented that you can’t correct a mistake. In case, you have gone outside the line of your lips, a gentle swipe with your finger can restore the look of the lipstick. Some other liquid matte lipsticks don’t allow such easy correction. To compare pigmentation to the NYX ones, the NYX lip creams are a little more pigmented than these, no matter which colour you choose. However, the lighter shades of Miss Claire are less pigmented than the more deeper ones, but a second layer sorts you out & shows true to colour.
Staying Power – This lipstick gives you great colour for around 5-6hrs. It may fade a little after light meals, and look a bit patchy. What I do, is simply purse my lips to spread out whatever colour remains & BAM…even colour throughout and no patchiness! Yay! No need of touch ups.. (Yes, I’m lazy like that too!). As for the comparison to the NYX ones, I own NYX Adis Ababa and it stays about the same time on me as these.
What I like –
- Price point (I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t one of the factors that drew me towards it)
- Non-drying formula
- Ease of application (unlike the fast-drying liquid matte lipsticks)
What I didn’t like –
- No testers (Bane of budget-friendly products sometimes )
- Not available online / in cosmetics stores (I missed having access to Mumbai’s Beauty Centre where I could have found these very easily)
BnB rating – 4.7/5
GRAB them, yes Grab them if & when you see them!
