Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder ‘004 Sandstorm’ – Review

MAY is here and the term STAY MATTE seems to attract me more than anything else in this world. Blame it on this hot, humid and totally unpredictable weather condition.

As someone with less than flawless skin I tend to buy high coverage powders and like all type of layering processes. Anything that aims to deliver less than moderate coverage is a complete NO no for me.

BUT like I said this month is quite different makeup-wise and looks like I’m gravitating towards natural and long-lasting makeup. So you can find me hunting for products that help to keep my look flawless all day long. Here’s what  I came across …

My Thoughts :

When summer arrives here all you can think about is sales, mangoes and matte makeup. In such a situation when you come across a powder that CLAIMS to have shine controlling and pore minimizing properties, you don’t think twice before buying. Well, that’s exactly what made me buy Rimmel Stay Matte. Today after trying few shades I feel I’m ready for a detailed review.

About Shade : I got the shade ‘004 Sandstorm‘ and I feel it suits my Summer tanned NC 35 skin-tone. Although in winter when I swing back to NC 30 I may need the shade ‘Transparent’ . Silky Beige / Nude Beige are ideal shades for Medium to Dark Indian Skin tones. I like how 004 Sandstorm doesn’t add any color to my base makeup and simply does the job of setting my makeup. You can find me wearing this powder HERE

How I wear it : My full face makeup always starts with Benefit POREfessional, followed by Lakme CC cream. While my Colorbar Mist handles the glow department. But when it came to setting with a powder I couldn’t find any right product for a pretty long time. But now I have Stay Matte and everything seems to be working well and the last step in my routine is light dusting of this powder. For flawless finish I suggest using fluffy brush to buff product into the skin will ensure it mixes well with the natural oils.

Texture : This powder has a extreme lightweight texture that is quiet smooth. I find it quiet easy to blend with my blush brush. One more thing I like about the texture is that the way it sets my under eye concealer (specially my MAC Pro-longwear concealer).

Finish : Like I said before that it adds no color to my foundation just like a translucent powder. The finish is natural looking matte but a lot depends on the makeup tools you use. My advice is use a dense blush brush if you have oily skin, avoid using a sponge or puff.

Formula : I like to use dewy foundation even if my skin type is oily, and I don’t like to combine it with a full coverage matte powder which makes hard to fake natural look. My biggest fear using a pressed powder to set foundation is that of the ‘Cakey ‘ factor,  but unlike most of the pressed powders this one doesn’t look cakey at all even after layering. This powder works great to pro-long my makeup’s wear-time. The formula does even out my skin tone a little, but when used alone some of the acne marks on my chin peek through it. So it is better of as a setting pressed powder.

Fragrance : It has mild fragrance that disappears once you apply the product.

Coverage :  It has pretty light coverage that works well over foundation or BB cream. It acts like a setting powder with a nice tint. It doesn’t feel heavy, just adds a nice soft matte finish to my foundation.

Staying Power : I don’t think that in summer or on oily skin any powder will last ALL Day Long. This one takes care of keeping the oil ( & shine )  in check for at least 6 hours on my skin. After 6-7 hours I start to see shiny spots at around my T-zone.

Summary :

Texture : Smooth Powder
Finish : Natural MatteFormula : Lightweight, oil-absorbingResult : Shine-free complexion

Coverage : Light

Staying Power : 5 to 6 hours.
