How have you all been? Festival season has left each one of us drained out, but work is work; and when work consists of swatching and testing out new makeup, we are all game!
Maybelline has lately gone crazy with all the cute, affordable and handy new launches–be it the Super fresh compact or these little babies named Velvet Matte lipsticks! oh man! We are drooling! :inlove: I just thought, if these yummy looking lippies could make us drool, you girls out there would also have been waiting to see the swatches of these newcomers!
So here I go with the reviews and swatches of the newly launched Maybelline Velvet Matte range, I totally feel that these shades will suit variety of Asian skin tones! :-)
Price: INR 475
Quantity: 5 ml
Maybelline claims these lipsticks, which actually are sort of creamy, velvety glosses; to give a velvety matte finish on the lips after it sets! Upon swatching, the lip creams seemed really very creamy and smooth! Not glittery or sparkly, but they had this very elegant sheen to it! The SA claimed that these dry to a proper matte in a matter of 15-20 minutes after application! But my experience with lip creams says that no, they are not going to set to matte or even a semi-matte finish! They may set to a velvety-satiny, cushiony or say creamy kind of a finish! Rest, let’s expect the best out if these cutesie babies!
If you have seen or used the Maybelline lip polishes, you know what the packaging of these lip creams look like! It has the same rectangular, see-through packaging made of glass with a matte black twist-up lid! The matte cap looks real chic and goes very well with the whole concept of velvet matte lip creams! The enclosed applicator comes in a leaf, or says lip-shaped form; which trust me, will make defining your cupid’s bow a breeze!
The velvet matte range from Maybelline comprises of about 7 shades which vary across the spectrum! Here i have swatches of the most wearable shades for Indian skin tones, which are perhaps the only shades that have been launched in the Indian market!
MAT 4- This one had me interested on the very first glance! A very wearable, coral-pink kind of shade, which will look extremely flattering on college going girls! Call it love at first sight if you may!
MAT 5– The only orange shade in the velvet matte collection, MAT 5 looked especially creamy in the swatch, but lacked in terms of pigmentation! I personally do not like my oranges, but yes, it looked quite warm toned and would suit Indian skins very well!
MAT 6- Maybelline has tried to incorporate more of pinks and reds, and one such deeper shade of pink, leaning more towards plummish-mauve is the Mat 6! This one was more pigmented than the others, and did leave behind a stain after cleaning up the swatch!
MAT 7- I wished Maybelline had a pin up red in their velvet matte range, and bam! Mat 7 had it for me! An extremely gorgeous, classic red which is utterly creamy, and is heavy on pigments! A must try shade!
MAT 8- Not an orange, not a red, Mat 8 is the perfect combination of orange and red, leaning more towards an orangey-red, more of an orangey-carrot colour! You get the point right? You college girls are going to live in it this fall, literally!
MAT 10- a very pretty orchid-pink, leaning towards fuchsia pink with blue-purple undertones, Mat 10 will make you the life of the party! Yes, with its cool undertones it makes a bang on shade for the upcoming winters! The only downside I felt was that i had to swipe it a couple of times to get the true colour!
MAT 11- the most insanely pigmented shade amongst the launch was the Mat 11! Maybe it is just because it is such a dark shade of red, almost a deep maroon or say a lighter, brighter version of the decadent ox-blood shade; but it got me lusting for its amazing pigmentation! And from my experience, this is going to be the most long lasting among the lot!
Quite happy with the range of colours available in the indian markets, a makeup freak would ask for nothing more than decent pigmentation! And these bad boys do not disappoint in this aspect! They are medium coverage lip creams and are in most probability build-able! Though I do not think that they will go opaque on the lips but for a creamy gloss, and that too at such an affordable price, I am more than happy!
I cannot comment authoritatively upon the longevity of the lip product but given the creamy texture, but it lasted long, around 4 hours on my lips! And yes, it is definitely not transfer proof, as the swatches smudged all over my car’s steering wheel on my way back from the store!
Overall, we really liked these Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Creams! So lookout for the actual reviews, which will be following soon enough! ️ :-) Have you tried any of the velvet matte lip creams from Maybelline? Do share with us what you think about then!
