Hey Beauties !

I was surely not hunting for a foundation but the sudden hype and hullabaloo behind the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation was surely enticing. This pretty lady was already introduced in the US market and was a huge hit. It officially launched in Indian market in the early 2016 and just like any other Maybelline new launches, it was another big hit.

Having an oily skin, this was like a boon for me with the summer approaching. I have been trying and testing the foundation for a couple of weeks now and I can surely say that, I made a great decision purchasing it.

So, let’s take a look at the foundation in details.

PRICE – 525 INR for 30 ml

MY REVIEW OF MAYBELLINE FIT ME FOUNDATION :

Packaging – the foundation comes in a rectangular thick glass bottle with a square black screw cap. The glass bottle is enough a risk object to carry during the travel and the absence of the pump dispenser makes it even impossible. The details on the packaging is very comprehensive and there’s no way you can go wrong in reading the shade; it is literally written everywhere.

Shade – Before I venture into the shade I bought for myself, let me go into a little detail about the 6 shades available for this foundation. Now, the number of shades is less (than what we get for high end foundations) but it is still better than 2-3shades which many drugstore brands manufacture.

ALL SHADES DETAILS –

  • 115 Ivory – the lightest of the lot with pink undertones. This will only suit the extremely fair and pale skin tones. Preferably NW 15-20
  • 128 Warm Nude – another lightest shade but with a subtle warm under tones. It has a pale yellow undertone and will suit NC 20-30.
  • 230 Natural Buff – this one has a warm yet faded peach kind of undertones and would be perfect for fair to slightly tanned skin. A perfect match for NC 30-35
  • 310 Sun Beige – this is very identical to 230 Natural Buff but has a wee bit deeper undertone. It suits my NC 40 skin tone very well.
  • 322 Warm Honey – a warm undertones deeper shade for medium to dusky skin tones. This will suit NC 42-44
  • 330 Toffee Caramel – the deepest shade of this range and will suit the duskier complexion with strong warm undertones. It will mostly suit NC 45.

Now, the shade I choose is 310 Sun Beige. It is a warm under toned shade for fair skin tones. My skin tone for MAC is NC 40 and I found this is a perfect one for me. I also tried the 230 Natural Buff which was very similar and also workable on my skin. However, with summer approaching I know I will be slightly tanned in no time, I choose the wee bit deeper one.

The shade card has various warm toned shades which is great for Indian skin tones. It is very difficult for us to blend a pinker or peach undertone with strong yellow toned complexions. Therefore, the shades will cater the need to the fair to medium skins in no time but deeper and duskier skin tones won’t find a perfect match. Sometimes, I simply dab a yellow based powder on top to get that bright matte effect and also set the foundation.

Texture –

the foundation has a liquid texture. It is moderately thick (not the sticky and unmanageable thick one) and to be honestly, matte foundations are easier to work with when they are slight liquid. The texture gives you enough time to blend the foundation and doesn’t turn matte within few minutes. It has the possibility to cling on to dry patches but a good moisturizer will solve the problem. I am not a professional when it comes to foundation but I can assure that this beauty is very easy to work on. The texture is extremely forgiving and doesn’t feel heavy or suffocating on the skin. It also doesn’t clog the pores and let the skin breathe on its own. I have acne prone skin but thankfully it never broke me out.

Application

when it comes to application, foundation are the trickiest one. It is the key for smooth look. This foundation, to my surprise, is the easiest one I have worked on till date. I simply use the fingers (when I am in a hurry) or a flat foundation brush to apply the foundation and it blends onto the skin like anything. To smoothen and even out the look further, I buff it with a damp sponge. The chances of getting a streaky look in awfully minimal and feels just like another skin.

Coverage –

the foundation gives sheer to medium coverage. You can build the layers but chances are that it may look slightly streaky with time. It is definitely not going to cover up the scars and marks and for that you have to use concealer. For a daily usable drugstore foundation, I feel the coverage is just fine. It doesn’t look unnatural at all and there isn’t any white cast on the skin as well (thanks to the absence of SPF). It photographs really well and smoothen out the skin to a large extent.

Finish

though it claims to be matte, I found the finish slight satin-y. I would say I happy because I have seen what super matte foundation does to skin, making it simply dull. The satin touch gives a soft glow look, just like the natural skin. You can also dab a slight wash of powder to get that seamless touch. When I set it with powder, it simply goes to that ‘dry matte’ finish.

Oil Control
the oil control factor is moderate and you would require to touch-up with powder every 4 hours approximately. The T-zone get a bit out of control and requires to set with powder immediately after application. You can also use a blot sheet for the excess oil secretion.

Oxidization sadly, the foundation does oxidizes when I use a sunscreen underneath. The strong ingredients of sunscreen has the tendency to chemically react with a foundation on top and I have seen after 4-5hours it oxidizes a bit.

Staying power

for a drugstore foundation, the staying power is truly commendable. It stays on the skin intact for 5hours (in a moderately hot climate) and starts fading of slowly. Even after 8hours, I noticed that the foundation stays (a bit faded) and keep the skin natural.

SUMMARY

  • Glass bottle packaging without pump.
  • Good shade card for fair to medium Indian skin tones (with strong yellow or peach undertones).

  • Best applied with brush or sponge.
  • Blends seamlessly like a natural skin.

WHAT I LIKED :-)

  1. Majority shades with warm undertones.
  2. Texture is semi-thick yet liquid-y.
  3. Gives you enough time to blend and get the perfect look without clinging on the dry patches and fine lines.
  4. It allows the pores to breathe and doesn’t breaks out.
  5. Application is easy, no streakiness and can be applied with anything.
  6. It gives light to buildable medium coverage.
  7. It photographs really well and smoothen out the skin to a large extent.
  8. It gives a soft satin matte look instead of dull matte one.
  9. staying power is good.

WHAT I DISLIKED :-(

  1. Packaging needs a pump dispenser.
  2. The foundation has the tendency to oxidize.
  3. For a matte foundation, the oil control is lacking slightly.
  4. Those looking for full coverage will be disappointed ( dark spots need concealer)
  5. Not all shades are launched in India.
