Blackheads are something really irritating skin problem that we want to get rid of as quickly as possible. It is mostly common for oily and combination skin, especially on the T-zone area. Hence, before treating anything we have to know the roots and causes for it.

When dirt and dead skin cells, not removed properly from skin, accumulates on the pores and forms a sebum which, with the passage of time gets blackened due to the melanin oxidation and turns black in color. Thus it sits on the pores and has specific way to remove it. Granting, they cause no bacterial infection like redness of acne, it still is unhealthy for the skin.

So, here’s the enumerated list of various home remedies for blackheads.

Easy DIYS :

  1. Egg-Honey Strip Masks

In a small bowl, mix the egg white and honey in equal proportion and with the help of a brush, apply a thin layer on the blackheads area. Then layer it with a thin tissue paper. Repeat the procedure twice or thrice at the most and let it get dry completely. Pull off with a jerk and wash the face properly.

Note – Make sure that each of the coatings is enough dry to place the next coat. If the layers are not sufficiently dry, this method will not work suitably.

  1. Overnight with Sugar and Honey Face Pack

Mix enough sugar and honey together to make a semi-thick consistency paste. After CTM, use this scrub to exfoliate only to the areas where you have blackheads. Keep on massaging the areas gently for a good 6-7mins. You would notice the blackheads are slowly getting removed. Wash off the paste and pat dry the skin. You can also rub ice cubes on the skin to treat the pores. 



  1. Honey and Cinnamon

Honey has nourishing properties while cinnamon is great for anti-bacterial properties. Both the products will work exceptionally well for oily acne prone skin. Take 1/2tbsp of cinnamon powder or fine grinned cinnamon stick and mix it with 1 tbsp. of honey. Mix it well until it forms an even paste. Apply the paste on the areas for a good 10mins. Then start scrubbing the affected area to peel off the blackheads naturally. Wash off and see the difference within few minutes.

  1. Baking soda

This is a rather popular home remedies for blackheads. Mix baking soda and water in the semi thick consistency. Now, scrub the mixture on the blackheads areas and do it very slowly. The baking soda will dry up the blackheads and easily peel them off. Also, it has various natural bleaching properties that it lighten and refresh the skin after thorough washing.

  1. Lemon sugar

Take one tablespoon of medium grinded sugar granules and mix it with lemon juice. Apply the mixture for some time and once it is semi dry, scrub it slowly in a circular motion to remove the blackheads. Lemon will cleanse the skin and also scrub off any layer of dead skin, blackheads and impurities hidden inside the pores. It will also take off excess oil sebum from the skin’s layer.


  1. Cinnamon and lemon

This is a beautiful combo for acne prone skin. Lemon is a natural blech, enriched in vitamin c while cinnamon is great for anti-bacterial property. Mix 1 tbsp. each of cinnamon powder or fine grinned cinnamon stick and mix it with 1 tbsp. of lemon juice. Apply on the area and let it dry for 10mins. Slowly scrub it off and see how magically the blackheads disappear. Wash off with lukewarm water and rub ice cubes afterwards.

  1. Sugar olive oil

This is the best method for normal skin in winters. Mix olive and enough sugar as per the consistency of a scrub and massage it comprehensively in a circular motion until and unless the skin softens and the blackheads peels off. Then, take a cotton cloth and dip it in warm water (not hot). Place it on top of the areas and let it sit for a minute or so. Slowly, wipe off the scrub and see how the skin invigorates within minutes.

  1. Turmeric

Turmeric has excellent herbal properties for skin and is a natural bleach. Take raw turmeric and grind it to form a paste. Add mint or lemon juice to adjust the consistency and, apply it directly to the blackheads and leave it for a few minutes to get dry. Afterwards wash the area with lukewarm water. You can also add sandalwood powder with it to make it dry easily.


P.S. Do not try all these methods together. See, which ingredient suit your skin better and accordingly stick to one method. It might take some time but will surely give good results.



  • Avoid the cosmetics products that clogs the pores and causes irritation to the skin.
  • Do facial stream and scrubbing at least once a week to keep away the impurities from the skin.
  • Splash water on the face every hour too keep the dirt away from pores. Water will naturally cleanse the skin.
  • Rub ice cubes on the clean skin to treat the pores.
  • For oily skin, use a clay mask or sandalwood mask twice a week to deep cleanse the skin.


A lot of people use stream method for blackheads and then blast and squeeze them out. Do not ever do that. It will not only hurt your skin but will cause acne and rashes. Also, Try not to touch your face too much to prevent the exchange of oils and dirt from your hands to your face.


  • Drink lots and lots of water which will help the skin flush out the toxins.
  • Avoid nuts, rich chocolates and greasy or fried food that will lead to excess production of sebum and cause acne and blackheads.
  • Consume fruits high in Vitamin C that will help the skin rejuvenate on its own without any trace of blackheads.

 Sometimes, it may take few days to clear up blackheads. Therefore, patience is the key. Every skin take its time to adjust and adapt to the various methods and hence all you have to do is to choose the best thing suited for the skin.
