Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Foundation Review and Swatches : Beige Vanilla
( AUTHOR SANCHITA )
Hey Everyone !
After my experience with Maybelline Fit Me, I bought another budget friendly one from the recently launched Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Foundation. Even though I was very satisfied with Fit Me one, I bought this for the unique yellowish toned shade (well, at least that’s what I told myself before buying). The shade card for foundations available in India for the budget friendly brands has never been good and that’s the very reason I have stopped purchasing.
So, let’s see how the foundation as well the shade card has fared with me.
- Rose Honey
- Rose Ivory
- Beige Vanilla (My shade, the one which I’m reviewing)
- Beige Caramel
PRICE – 575 INR for 29g
Packaging – Since I love tube packaging, this was a winner for me. It comes in a pretty rose gold slender tube with a shiny rose gold screw cap. The packaging is extremely light weight and easy to carry around. I have already travelled a lot with this and it never messed up in my bag. The shade name and other basic information are written on it except for the ingredients list, which is missing in the whole packaging. All in all, a pretty packaging for a daily wear foundation.
Shade – It has four shades which is disappointing. I don’t understand one thing, Lakme is one of the desi brand yet they always mess up the shade card every time they launch a foundation/BB/CC cream. Two shades has pinkish undertones while the other two has yellowish and caramel undertone. I chose the shade 02 Beige Vanilla because it has yellowed tone. The shade will suit fair to medium skin Indian skin tones but wheatish to dusky people, sadly, won’t get a match. I am somewhere around NC 35 and hence the shade matches me well.
Coverage – The coverage of the foundation is sheer to buildable. Now, if you have flawless skin without any dark spot, acne marks, etc. this is the perfect pick or you. However, if you have visible acne marks you surely need concealer to hide it. I have certain discoloration around my mouth a bit and hence I simple dab a concealer to brighten the area and then apply the foundation. It gives a smooth look. The coverage as well as the price gives me an impression that this one is more of an advanced BB/CC cream rather than a foundation.
Texture – The texture is certainly what it claims i.e. weightless. It has mousse texture which melts like a dream when you apply on the face. It feels light weight, non-oily and non-greasy and a perfect choice for this scorching heat outside. The formula of this foundation is what I am surely drawn to as it works as flawless as it can be. It also gives a certain brightness to the skin which I surely need in this summer. The texture is extremely forgiving and doesn’t feel heavy or suffocating on the skin. It also doesn’t clog the pores and let the skin breathe on its own. I have acne prone skin but thankfully it never broke me out.
Finish – The finish is powder matte so I would not advise to apply this during winter or for dry skin. But with the temperature rising like hell, I would go on a limb here and say that dry skin can use it in humid summer. After this foundation, I generally don’t apply powder right way except for any t-zone. I only apply after 3-4hours of application. It might cling on to dry patches unless you well-moisturize the skin prior to the application. I also like the way it makes my pores smooth and blurry and photographs really well.
Application – Application of foundation is the toughest yet most important thing. A foundation, no matter how good it is, may play a spoilt sport if you don’t apply or blend it thoroughly. To my rescue, I had no issue in blending the foundation. Due to the mousse texture, I simply apply it all over the face (in an outward motion) and blend it through. To give a seamless finish, I either use a damp sponge (I use the RT sponge) or a flat top kabuki brush (I use Sigma F80) to blend it again to avoid the streakiness. No matter how many layer you go for the foundation will not look cakey if you blend it well.
Oxidization – I never noticed any oxidation of the foundation at all. Summer sometimes makes my skin a bit dull and tanned but this foundation merely brighten when applied. It might fade away but never oxidizes or make the skin look muddy.
Oil Control – Due to its matte texture, the foundation controls oil very well. I generally apply two layers for maximum coverage available and never set it with powder immediately. I only apply the powder after 3-4hours when the skin starts to look oily a bit.
Staying Power – the staying power is surely not 9 to 5 I would say but merely 6-7hours provided you apply a compact every 4hours or so. If you won’t touch up at all, the staying power would be around 5hours. Taking into consideration its features, I would say the price is pretty reasonable.
