Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal
(Author ~ Sanchita )
Hello Friends !
As you know I had tried and tested the Maybelline Colossal Kajal version for a long time before shifting on to the Lotus Colorkick and Lakme eyeconic. When they launched the Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal version, I immediately bought it. Intense and rick kohl eyes are completely my favorite thing and I always make it a point to apply kajal the moment I am stepping out of the house.
This particular variant surely promises big things and hence, let’s check out how promising it is.
Maybelline (company) claims that,”A 2X blacker look in one smooth stroke that stays intense for up to 16 hours! With light absorbing pigments, the formula delivers 2 times more blackness* for double the intensity”
PRICE – Rs.300 for 0.35gm
PACKAGING – The Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal comes in a black cardboard packaging with necessary information written on it. Although the ingredient list was missing. The kajal is housed in a black retractable twist up pencil form with the brand name written in yellow accents. The twist up functioning works pretty good and felt sturdy as compared to the Colossal original version (I always found the original packaging slightly flimsy). Overall, the packaging was efficient and well-built and ensures no wastage of product.
SHADE AND PIGMENTATION – The shade is decent black as against what mentioned. But, if you compare with the original version, that promised ‘blacker and bolder’ version is surely missing. I found the pigmentation as good as the older version. You need more than 2-3swipes for the rich and intense color on the waterline as well as eyelids. The pigmentation was slightly disheartening as I was expecting something better.
TEXTURE– The texture is soft and creamy but not something very delicate that will tip off with the slightest pressure, just like the Magique Bold version. It glides on the waterline as well as on the eye lids with ease and never tugs or pulls the sensitive area too much. It gives a flat matte finish once settled and somehow feels slightly dry, although nominal. If you wish to create a smokey eye, I wouldn’t say this is a good option. It works best as a kajal and eye liner.
FORMULA – I was expecting a good formula, if not excellent. However, I was completely disheartened. The kajal is water proof for sure but it is not smudge proof. It does smudges after 3-4hours. I wanted to test it out and wore Super Black on one eyes and the Magique Bold on the other for a hot humid day. The Magique Bold never smudged a bit while the Super Black was a mess and I had to remove it from under the eyes.
STAYING POWER – As an eyeliner, it stays for a good 8-9hours but on the water line, it stays for maximum 4hours in hot and humid summer (I have dry eyes) and then it starts smudging very badly. The removal of the Kajal requires a good baby oil or olive oil and it comes off easily after soaking for 20-30secs.
COMPARISON WITH LOREAL MAGIQUE BOLD KAJAL – The Magique Bold was a hands-down winner for me because it is bolder, darker, long wearing and doesn’t smudges at all. The price might be a little higher but it is totally worth when compared to the Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal.
OVERALL – All in all, I would rather buy the Maybelline Colossal Kajal than the Super Black formula because it is still better than this one. I really wish they improve the quality otherwise it is a complete failure.
PACKAGING – Retractable twist up and mess free packaging.SHADE – Decent Black
TEXTURE- Soft and Creamy
PIGMENTATION – Average
FORMULA – waterproof and smudges after 3-4hours in summer.
STAYING POWER – as an eyeliner 8-9hours while on the water line 3-4hours.
WHAT I LIKED
- Nice retractable twist up packaging.
- Jet black kajal.
- Pigmentation is good.
- Texture is soft and creamy which glides effortlessly.
- No irritation on eyes.
- Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens users.
- Matte finish.
WHAT I DISLIKED
- It smudges giving raccoon eyes.
- The staying power isn’t surely 16h.
- The richness and boldness is missing, it is same as the Colossal one.
- Staying power is disappointing.
RECOMMENDATION – Why will I spend so much money buying this when the Maybelline Colossal Kajal version is better than this one? The “Super Black” one is purely a marketing gimmick to me and I believe I completely wasted my money on this one. I would rather recommend the Maybelline
