L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss Rebel : Review and Swatches

(Author ~ Sanchita)

Dark lip colors are becoming my new obsession nowadays. With so many brands slowly getting launched in India and the variety of matte lip colors in the market today, I am overwhelmed. This time I picked up the shade Rebel from the house of L.A. Girl. Before buying this lip color, I went through numerous swatch post over the internet to see how the color would look on warmer skin tones but I couldn’t find anything.

Nevertheless, I loved the color so much and that’s why I simply picked up during the sale and here’s my full review on it.

MY REVIEW

Packaging – The L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss comes in a cylindrical, light weight plastic body with a screw cap that has the application attached to it. The applicator is basically a doe footed wand that has the right balance of flexibility and firmness and applies well on the lips. It spreads the color well and great to line and fill the lips with. Inside the cylindrical body, the space is narrow because the product dries up very quickly and I found the packaging pretty thoughtful. A part of the packaging is transparent which enables you to see the shade clearly and easily. Travelling with this is surely an easy task and overall, I loved the packaging for this.

Shade
– The shade Rebel is described as a ‘muted dark purple’ by the brand and I couldn’t agree more. The purple has leaning more on the warmer side and has no shimmer or frosty touch whatsoever. It is not a ‘vampy’ shade but a dark one and surely one uncommon color I have come across. The color is a mixture of MAC Diva and Rebel from the matte series. I am not a fan of purple color but this one looks exotic. It screams vanity, power and boldness throughout and I love the way it looks. The lip color has enough sass in itself and therefore pair it with an eye makeup more subtle and nominal to balance out the look. The color would be flattering across all skin tones and the medium to deeper skin tones would be able to carry if off better.

Pigmentation – The pigmentation is insane. Single swipe gives full saturation of color and covers up every layer of pigmentation or discoloration. You don’t need lip liner underneath but you can surely use one to make the lips look fuller and better. The only complain I have with the product is that awful smell. It smells of chemical paints and and something which is a big turn off for me. I surely wish they improve this part.

Texture – although the name spells as ‘Pigment Gloss’ but the glossiness is nowhere to be seen. It is simply the ‘Matte Flat Finish’ kind of lip colors doing the round. The texture of the lip color is thick pigment which spreads on the lips easily and dries off to a flat matte finish within 10-15secs. In fact, it dries off on my lower lips by the time I reach the upper one – it is that quick. The lip color is completely unforgiving towards dry and chapped lips and hence make sure to exfoliate the lips well before application. If your lips have the tendency to dry out, apply a thick coat of lip balm. The texture doesn’t accentuates if you have hydrated the lips. It is completely transfer proof once it dries and I would advise not to pucker the lisp or rub it together until it dries off. Some propel may find it drying. I wouldn’t complain much because flat matte finish lipsticks have the same texture.

Formula – the formula is transfer proof and long lasting. The color won’t budge the whole. In fact, light oily foods can’t even budge it and it stays pretty well. It will not stretch the lips or feel parched but it does feel slightly dry with the passage of time.

Staying power – The color stayed on for around 8-9hours on my lips intact and after that I notice subtle fading from the centre. The longevity on the lips is commendable and will never disappoint you at all. The lip color will remain intact for whole day if you apply lip liner underneath. For the price, one of the best matte lipsticks for me after Miss Claire lip creams.

OVERALL – L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss Rebel is a warmer dark purple, amazingly pigmented with a strict matte finish, transfer proof texture and commendable staying power of 8-9hrs.
