Garnier Ultra Blends Mythic Olive Deep Nourishing Shampoo
(Author ~ Sanchita)
One lesson I learnt with the Garnier Ultra Blends is that you should never go with the craze. On a whim, I purchased every shampoo from this brand, hoping it would do wonders to my dry and frizzy hair – instead it made it worse. Initially I was confused and thought maybe there is something wrong with my hair so I made my friend use it for 5-6 washes and she had the same view about it.
Let me elaborate the experience with the Mythic Olive Deep Nourishing Shampoo.
PRICE – 120 INR for 180 ml.
The Garnier Ultra Blends Mythic Olive Deep Nourishing Shampoo comes in a translucent plastic bottle which is olive green in color. The bottle has a slender look to it and has a matte golden cap with a leaf engraved on it. It has the flip open system with small opening that dispenses the right amount of product and prevents wastage. The packaging is well designed for a drugstore shampoo and the translucent plastic enables you to see how much product is left. It is easy to carry and totally fuss free. Overall, the packaging is light and travel friendly.
The shampoo is clear, just like a gel and has a medium-runny consistency. There is a thing about clear or clarifying shampoos which tend to dry out the tresses as I have learnt from various hair experts. Nevertheless, I got carried away with the tags of ‘Olive’ and ‘Deep Nourishing’ and made the blunder. The aroma is refreshing and sweet to a large extent but not as good as the Garnier Soy Milk version. It stays for few minutes post washing and then fades off leaving behind a fresh trail.
The efficacy of the shampoo is better for oily hair than dry ones. I have dry wavy-curly hair and hence I always prefer to invest in a nourishing one. The shampoo is formulated without parabens which is really good and acceptable. However, it has SLS (the second ingredients on the list) and which is why it will lather heavily. It lathers like a dream but also dries out the hair really awfully. As a result, whenever I skip the conditioner part, the natural waves and curls are completely messy. The shampoo is better when diluted with water and applied and also I have noticed that it takes a long time to wash off, unlike my Dove or Tresemme ones.
When I first used the shampoo, it washed off every layer of dirt, grime, pollution and oiliness. There were time I heavily oiled my hair with coconut, castor, olive and Argan oils and the shampoo was efficient enough to get rid of everything. Therefore if you have an oily scalp, this is surely a good shampoo for you. Whenever you are using this shampoo, make it a point to use a conditioner. For normal to dry hair, the conditioner is a must. I generally use the L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Oil Replacement Cream which works really good as a leave-in-conditioner.
The shampoo isn’t good as an answer to the scalp problems. Although it doesn’t exaggerate them as well. I was facing severe hairfall issues but this shampoo made no difference. It does makes the hair soft and bouncy but the frizz remains unless you use a good conditioner. Since it dries out my hair, I only use it once or twice a month, to remove the buildup on the scalp. My hair stays oil free for 3-4days easily when I use this shampoo and thus it is good for oily hair. Also, it does add a layer of volume so if you have thin or limp hair, you can consider using this one.
The scalp remains oil free for around 3days with a normal workout routine and daily chores and also the oil, dirt, pollution depends a lot on exposure as well. The price of the product is perfectly fine for a drugstore shampoo. It can be a good shampoo for normal to oily hair who needs a good volume. However, for the frizz you have to use a conditioner for smoothening.
OVERALL – The Garnier Ultra Blends Mythic Olive Deep Nourishing Shampoo has a refreshing aroma and lathers well on hair. It cleanses the scalp well and drives away every layer of oil and grime and adds a layer of volume to the hair. It is best suited for normal to oily hair but the dry hair should stay away from it.

- Lathers really well.

WHAT I DISLIKED
- No nourishing formula.
- Not for dry and damaged hair.

RECOMMENDATION – If you have oily scalp which is prone of dirt, grime and greasiness and you want to remove the buildup as well, this is the perfect one for you. However, the shampoo will strip off every layer of oil and grime and thus dry hair should stay away. I would not recommend if you have oily scalp and hair.
