Maybelline New York Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation Review

(Author ~ Sanchita)

Maybelline has recently launched the Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil, Fashion Brow Cream Pencil and the Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation. I loved the ‘Fit Me’ range and hence I wasted no time to pick up the Shine Free Stick Foundation. I have been using this for the past 7-8days and here’s my detailed review on the same.

SHADES AVAILABLE – 110 Porcelain, 220 Natural Beige, 230 Buff Beige, 235 Pure Beige and 330 Stick Toffee

PRICE – Rs. 550 for 9gms

MY REVIEW

Packaging – The Maybelline New York Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation comes in a convenient stick packaging with the twist up function. It has pretty much a similar packaging with that of stick foundation. The cap is transparent which enables you to see the shade from top and the shade name is also written. It is very easy to carry with and has the perfect compact packaging. The stick has an outer core which the shade of the foundation while the inner core has the anti-shine powder core. Overall, I loved the packaging and it justifies the price tag.

Shade – Back in US, it has around 12 shades while only 5 shades (listed above) are launched in India. Although, the shade card is still better than other drugstore brands but not completely enough. It pretty much covers the fair to dusky skin tones while deeper skin tones will not get a proper match. I am an exact match to 230 Natural Buff and I was matched to 235 Buff Beige. It has a distinct peach undertone and works pretty well on my tanned medium skin.

Coverage – The coverage of the foundation is sheer to buildable. It doesn’t look ashy or uneven or unnatural, but evens out the skin really well. The coverage is perfect for everyday use or for daytime occasions. However, if you are expecting a medium to full one, this isn’t the one.

Texture – I have used stick foundations before and I was expecting thick or heavy texture. But, to my utter surprise the texture is really smooth, almost like cream and glides on the face easily. However the skin has to be well nourished, exfoliated and moisturized before applying this foundation. The product doesn’t clog the pores, feel lightweight on the skin and blends very easily. The foundation doesn’t oxidize on the skin.

Application – The foundation is a dream to work on and great for beginners. For the first time, I have seen a foundation blend so easily with fingers. You simply need to apply on the face through the stick and blend with fingers. It doesn’t settle too quickly and hence you get enough time to blend it. The product also blends well with sponge but I haven’t tried yet with the brushes. The application is extremely easy.

Finish – The finish is natural matte. It lives up to the name, ‘shine free’ and gives you a nourished yet oil free look. I do not prefer too dewy or too matte foundations which looks unnatural and thus, the finish is really impressive. For normal to combination skin, the finish is perfect while for oily skin, you have to set with a powder for that long lasting effect. The product doesn’t have SPF and that is why it doesn’t cast any whitish layer on skin. It photographs really well, without any flashback and reveals a smooth skin.

Formula – The product is water proof and sweat proof and doesn’t easily melt away. It is dermatologist and allergy tested, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin. No matter how many times you layer the foundation, it doesn’t get patchy or accentuate fine lines, unless the skin is dry. I haven’t experienced any breakouts at all.

Staying power – The foundation has a good staying power. It is really not long lasting but stays for about 5-6hrs. However, after that I started noticing some shiny patches on the skin and I believe with proper retouching the foundation would last long. For a drugstore product with such price tag.

OVERALL – The Maybelline New York Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation comes in a convenient twist up packaging with 5 shades, gives sheer coverage, smooth creamy texture that blends like a dream and has a natural matte finish. It photographs well and stays for about 5hrs.

  9. No oxidation or flash back in photos.
  10. fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin.

  13. Reasonable price tag.

WHAT I DISLIKED Frown

  1. Shade card could have been better.
  2. Coverage is low.
  3. Dry skin may not like this very much.

RECOMMENDATION – If you are looking for a good foundation with easy blendable formula for regular or daily use, this is the right pick for you. However, it will not be good enough a foundation for events or parties unless you have a blemish-free flawless skin.

Although, I do feel the coverage could have better, I ended up using this foundation literally every day and I am in love with it. It is practically fuss free and works like a charm. Unlike liquid foundations, this is easier to work with. I believe Indian market should come up with such soft textured foundations like this with such price tag.
