Product NAME: Maybelline New York V-Face Duo Powder – (shade: Medium Dark)

Face contouring warms up the skin really well and gives the perfect defined structure and prevent your foundation from making you look flat and artificial. Sometimes, when I tend to use a medium coverage foundation for daytime, I prefer slight contouring so that it can define the face structure well. I am a fan of Maybelline products (who isn’t?) and therefore I picked this V-Face Duo Powder so that I can multi task with this. I have been using this for past one year now and thus decided to pen down this review.

PRICE : Rs. 500 in India for 8.5gm

Packaging – The packaging of the V-Face Duo Powder impressed me slightly even though it is a basic drugstore product. It comes in a light weight round plastic compact case with two compartments. The first compartment has the compact while the second one houses a place for keeping the brush or applicator along with a nice mirror. The mirror is perfect for touch-ups while on the go but the flat brush is very average. It isn’t good enough for application at all and I merely use it to dust off the excess powders. Coming to the first compartment, the ‘Duo Powder’ is in the shape of a ‘V’. The hollow portion has the lighter shade while the rest of it is the deeper shade. The packaging, overall, is good, efficient and travel friendly.

Shade – The shade range is unacceptable. They have just provided twp variants Light Medium and Medium Dark but the color difference isn’t much of a help. The shade range will only cater the need of light and slightly medium skin tone (up to NC40). I feel this is where the product has failed miserably. I picked up the shade Medium to Dark but still I am not satisfied with it for my fair-medium skin tone.

Application – The product can be used in three ways – as a subtle highlighter, contour and face powder. The lightest shade is to be used as subtle highlighter, deep one for contour while swirl both the color to use it as a facial powder. On my skin, the highlighter works mildly but the faint pearly glow never shows up. Although for daytime, it is good. The deeper color doesn’t help the contour at all. I feel the color could have been slightly deeper to compliment the other one. Now, as a face powder it is works pretty well. It is a slight yellowish-warm undertone that prevents my Indian skin to look ashy.

Coverage – The coverage as a face powder is light to buildable. It works really well on top of any liquid or cream product. The lighter shade can be used for setting the concealer under the eyes or the high points of the face. Same goes for the deeper shade as it only shows up on my skin under a darker contour. Thus, this powder works well on top of any other products but alone, it fails miserably.

Texture – The texture of Maybelline New York V-Face Duo Powder is impressive. The product is creamy and powdery to touch and doesn’t go streaky or cakey at all. The shimmers on the lighter shade don’t feel gritty either. It blends on to the skin well with a dense but fluffy brush and works well with a damp sponge as well. The product works best for normal to oily skin and doesn’t make your face shimmery or oily despite having slight pearly finish. It gives that soft natural dewy look. The inclusion of talc and perlite mineral in the product acts as excellent oil absorbent and gives a smooth look to the skin. It is also formulated with SPF32 PA+++ which is excellent. I love face products with sunscreen. But it never leaves any whitish cast on the skin.

Longevity – The product, when used on top of creamy products, tends to stay longer. It stayed around 4-5hours with no touch ups but when used alone, it hardly stayed for 2hrs. Therefore, the longevity of the product on the skin is a bit of hit and miss. The price tag is affordable for beginners who want to try out contouring and learn the tricks.

OVERALL – The Maybelline V-Face Duo Powder can be used as a multi tasking product but only for beginners. It has slightly constricted shade range but the texture and formula lives up to the claims.

BnB RATING – 7.5/10

Final Verdict: If the shade matches you, this can be a nice regular powder for touch ups. The texture is good and works well to control the oil. But I would not recommend this unless you are a beginner.
