Purple seems to one of the popular color worn so fearlessly in recent times. After trying out the deep berry based purple, I wanted to try out a lighter version but nothing that would look contrasting with my NC40 skin tone. While going through the online searches, I came across the NYX Trickster Full Throttle Lipstick and saw how lovely it looks on warm brown skin tones. NYX is also a great brand and so far whatever I picked up from NYX, turned out fabulous. I immediately picked this up and have worn the color quite often now. Having tried and tested this lip color, here’s my thought on the product.
PRICE – 600 INR for 2.4 g
Packaging – The NYX Full Throttle Lipsticks are encased in a glossy black tube with the twist-up function and the cap shuts with a click. The brand name and other information are written in white visible fonts. There is a small color coded top portion which indicates eh colour and helps you to identify the shade easily when you own more than one of the lipsticks from this range. The shade name is written on the side of the body. The bullet has a slim structure with a hexagonal tip. Now, if you have thin lips, it is extremely easy to line and fill the lips easily. Thus, the lipstick application looks clean and neat. This also helps when you are in a hurry. Overall, I loved the packaging; it is slim, light weight and travel-friendly.
Shade – NYX describes the color as “bright violet mauve”. On my skin tone (NC40) the color looks semi-bright pinkish purple. Thus, it is not striking heavily with the warm skin tone. The colour reminds me a lot of the Urban Decay Bittersweet Vice Lipstick although it is not exactly a dupe. NYX Trickster is a very wearable purple and you can wear this for daytime looks as well, provided you are wearing a subtle eye makeup. For night occasions and parties, a stunning eye makeup paired up with this color would be an ideal look. Also, this is such a color that even dusky and deeper skin can pull it off easily.
Fragrance – The fragrance is artificial and a bit bothering. Although it doesn’t last long, it would have preferred a better aroma from a lipstick.
Pigmentation – The pigmentation of the lip color is good. With a single swipe it deposits most of the color while the second layering gives a neat and opaque finish. I never needed a lip liner underneath this color and it never stains the lips as well. Even if you have pigmented lips, this color shows up evenly. Therefore, the color show off is really good.
Texture – The texture of the lip color is really tricky. When I initially bought it and after 2-3uses I was disappointed as it seemed slight dry. Also, I forgot to prep the lips prior application. You need to scrub and hydrate the lips beforehand as this is a matte lipstick. After the initial use, I tried it out again and surprisingly, it was all creamy smooth and easy to apply. The surface of the lipstick is slight silicon-y and glides well on the lips.
Finish and Formula – The lipstick has a flat matte finish but doesn’t dry out the lips if you have moisturized it properly. The formula is almost transfer proof when it settles down on the lips. Overall, the finish and formula is of a creamy-matte lip color and feels quiet comfortable throughout the day.
Longevity – The staying power is pretty good; it lasted for around 5-6hours with the color fading from the centre. Also, since it has a tad creamy texture, the longevity of the color depends a lot on the food and fluid intake.
Criticisms – NYX Trickster Full Throttle Lipstick performs pretty well as a basic drugstore matte lipstick but the amount given is pretty low compared to other drugstore lip colors. The standard quantity is 3.7-4g while NYX is providing only 2.4g. Apart from that, if you happen to be living in a very dry and cold climate or your dry has the tendency to be dry, this isn’t a good choice at all. On dry lips, the color tends to flake and accentuate the fine lines.
