MAC Mocha Lipstick Review, LOTD and Swatches
MAC is known for their iconic range of lipsticks and their collection is unbeatable. There isn’t a single shade available that MAC doesn’t have. MAC lipsticks are also available in various finishes and textures and the range of liquid lipsticks are also added. The lipstick, which I am going to review today, is MAC Mocha. This is considered as one of the mush-have shade for Indian skin tone and one of the favorites of the celebrity makeup artist, Mickey Contractor. The lip color is added to the Mickey Contractor Collection of MAC.
Let’s see the review in details.
PRICE – INDIA : Rs. 1450, USA : $17 (for 3gm/o.1oz)
Packaging – The MAC Mocha Lipstick has the quintessential MAC packaging. It is encased in a matte black cardboard box with every information penned down. The lipstick has a pearl black body with the usual twist up function and the shade name is written on the bottom. The body isn’t color coded so in case, you own a number of MAC lipsticks, you have store them upside down to see the shade name. The body has a slight heavier feel (unlike the fake MAC lipsticks) and it is very easy to carry around while travelling. Overall, the packaging is sturdy and excellent.
Shade – MAC Mocha Lipstick is a permanent color to their collection and it is described as a ‘peachy yellow-brown’ color. The shade Mocha is a true peachy-brown with medium undertones. The shade comes out as a deeper MLBB color on fair skin tones while for medium skin tones, it is the perfect MLBB color with a hint of brown. For dusky to deeper, it serves a nude MLBB but it won’t wash you out. This is where the beauty of the color lies. It is a very natural sort of color and best for formal or workplace. The color can also be worn on special occasion with a heavy eye makeup. Thus, you can go for a natural ‘no-makeup’ look with soft kohl and also a dramatic smoky eye for special events. The lip color enhances the complexion, flatters every skin tone, makes you look radiant and gives a wonderful touch to the lips. This is surely a must have color.
Pigmentation and Smell – The pigmentation is bang on! With a single swipe, it goes on the lips opaque but for neat and proper finish you can surely layer it. The color is rich and good enough to cover the lip pigmentation and you need a primer underneath. You can also go for a deeper version of this by building up the layers. The lipstick has a vanilla smell which is present in every MAC lipstick. It is mild and nothing overwhelming at all. Thus, it won’t hurt your nose at all.
Texture – The lipstick falls in the category of ‘Satin’. It is extremely creamy and glides on the lips like a dream. Unless you lip is peeling off due to dryness, you don’t need a lips balm underneath. If you exfoliate the lips and hydrate it prior application, the lipstick looks at its best. It has the right balance of hydration and satin texture. It doesn’t feel too creamy or glossy but doesn’t go dry and parched matte as well. Thus, the application is smooth and looks flawless. Despite being creamy, it doesn’t look or feel heavy even when you layer it on. The color doesn’t bleed or feather and thus you can have the luxury of skipping lip liner if you want. The lipstick doesn’t transfer but it is very nominal.
Finish – The finish is satin matte. This is surely one of the best finishes for dry lips. It looks almost matte with a slight sheen and thus it is comfortable to wear all day long with extra shine on it. It does not cling to dry patches or accentuates fine lines.
Staying power – The staying power of the lipstick is around 4hrs and after that it starts to fade off slightly. If you want that perfect fuller lips look, you have to touch up after 3-4hrs. The lip color is long wearing and has the ability to survive small snacks and drinks. You have reapply after a heavy meal. The price is something which can be considered as a con. MAC has the tendency to hike the price every month and it is surely a big con.
Dupes – The exact dupe of MAC Mocha was Lakme Satin Enrich 129 but sadly the shade has been discontinued. However, there are few shades which comes near Mocha and can be considered similar ones. These are L’Oréal Moist Matte – Maple Mocha, Nykaa So Matte Lipstick Naughty Nude and Lakme 9 to 5 Coffee Command, Urban Decay Matte Revolution Carnal and Nars Satin Lip Pencil Bansar.
OVERALL – Thus, MAC Mocha Lipstick is a perfect MLBB peachy brown for Indian skin ones. It is creamy, well pigmented, soft and creamy in texture with a satin-matte finish. The lip color is long wearing but slightly pricey.
