Huda Beauty Lip Contour & Liquid Matte ‘VIXEN’ swatches & Review

( Author Nidhi)

I had picked the Huda Beauty Lip Contour Set few months back that included 2 mini liquid mattes ‘Vixen’ and ‘famous’ and a lip pencil ‘Vixen’. As I have been using the Vixen matte and lip pencil together so thought of reviewing them together too. These kits are not available now but you can separately pick these products. The kits are more cost effective though in trying out more shades in lesser price. So let’s get on with the review of this lovely luxury product that I own.

Price: 27$ for liquid Matte, 20$ for Lip contour

My Experience:

Shade: Vixen is described as ‘poisonous deep brown’ a very apt description of shade. The color is truly a very deep and dark brown. It’s gothic yet flattering for all skin tones. If you love deep shades, you will love this vampy brown too.

Both the lip contour and the liquid matte are of same deep brown shade. Wear the lip pencil alone for a day look topped off with gloss (if you prefer some shine) and top it off with the liquid matte vixen for an intense color that screams attention.

Texture: The lip contour is creamy and pigmented enough to be applies smoothly on its own. Still prep the lips using some lip scrub and light clear balm if you have chapped lips for better results.

The liquid matte has a thin watery texture yet it is insanely pigmented and dries off in a jiffy. Alone the shade too works very well yet to let it stay on and on, the vixen lip contour is much needed. For maximum impact, line lips using the Lip Contour and fade towards the center. Apply a thin layer of Liquid Matte in the corresponding or lighter shade to fill in the rest. This must be followed to achieve an intense gorgeous color pay off that stay on till the time you remove it off.

Being matte can be drying too so prepping the lips beforehand and applying a lip balm at the end of the day is needed. The color feels very light once applied and sits comfortably on the lips. It doesn’t stain the lips still which is good.

Longevity: The liquid matte on top of the lip contour will stay on practically the whole day with hardly any fading. No need to recheck or reapply your lip color as it hardly fades even after snacks and meals.

I had tested this color on a day when I had stayed in water for almost 5+ hours  and had a full meal and snacks too still the color stayed on, as a strong tint even at the end of the day and I used a makeup remover to get it fully off my lips.

Packaging: I had picked the holiday kit by Huda beauty that includes 2 mini liquid mattes and a full sized lip contour pencil. This all comes in a lovely pack carrying all the necessary instructions on how to use the product. You can pick both these beauties separately too that comes in nice cardboard packs with all needed details.

The liquid matte comes in a frosted transparent square shaped glass pack with a tight screw black colored cap. The cap opens up to reveal the doe shaped foam applicator that does its application job very well.

The lip contour is a pencil with the creamy lip product. It needs to be sharpened. The pencil end has the same color as the shade it carries and the cap too is of similar color.

What I like:

  • The gorgeous deep shade.
  • The lovely packaging
  • Comfortable feather light formula.
  • Intense pigmentation
  • Great staying power
  • No need to reapply.
  • Not much drying
  • Picking a kit is cost effective.
  • Parabens free

What I dislike:

  • Availability issues
  • High price.

BnB Ratings: 4.8/5  (for both the lip contour and the liquid matte)

Overall, I just love the Huda lip kit. I find the texture to be non-drying and comfortable. These come in a wide shade selection and I would really love to pick all of them ( :P Hope I get that much money though :P :D). But if you love mattes and love deep shades then do check out the beautiful vixen ;).
