Hello Loves! Maybelline has innumerable range of lipsticks and the matte and long staying ones are my favourites. When the Super Stay 24 Color 2-Step Lipcolor was range, I had two colors in mind as the other colours have shimmers in them. One of them is a bright red while other is the violet plum called Constantly Cabernet. Having tried and tested this lip color, here’s my thought on the product.
PRICE – USA: $10.46 and India: Rs. 600
Packaging – The product is a 2-Step Lipcolor. It includes a small tube of liquid lipstick and a colourless lip balm. The lip color is the first step while the lip balm is the second step. The lip color portion has the doe footed applicator which has an elongated tear drop shape. The applicator is excellent for application. It applies the color appropriately and makes it so easy to apply. The other end has the twist up functional lip balm. Packaging wise, it is great – light weight and hassle free. When you don’t want to carry twp product and getting both in one, it is surely a great deal.
Fragrance – The lip color and lip balm have almost similar fragrance – a perfumed green apple. Now, the smell isn’t too obnoxious and thus nothing very bothering to the nose.
Shade – The shade Constantly Cabernet is a deep plum with strong purple undertones. It has a deeper tone to it and leans towards a cooler undertone but, having said that, the color looks quite apt on my NC40-42 skin tone and hence suitable for warm skin tones as well. If the color is applied to deeper and darker skin tones, it looks more of a mauve-y violet. This is a true vamp or wintery shade to pull off. It is great for the sultry gothic look or for party wear.
Pigmentation – Pigmentation is mind-blowing. This is one of those light weight lip colors that require a thin layer and the color pay off are amazing. Single layer gives you a terrific bold look. I am really happy with the pigmentation of the lip color. It looks even more stunning with a lip liner underneath but that is completely optional.
Texture and Finish – The finish of the lip color is matte. The lip balm has the finish which is glossy and creamy. This is why both products are punched together to balance it out. Staring off with the lipstick which is to be applied as the step 1, I would state that it has an average texture. The texture is thin and applies evenly but it takes to settle down. It feels sticky initially and thus neither can you rub the lips together nor can you apply the lip balm. Also, you need to prep the lips well before hand otherwise it highlights the dryness easily. I generally apply the lip balm before the lip color. The lip balm is a simple one – colourless and hydrating. It keeps a creamy layer on the lip color and prevents it from cracking down. Although the lip balm is hydrating, it is pretty average like any other hydrating lip balm.
Formula – The formula is smudge-proof and water proof. It hardly budges and unless you eat a lot of oily food, the lip color stays intact all day long.
Longevity – The claim of 24HOUR is somewhat true. It stays on for the longest time but removing the lip color is a pain. My lips generally turn red and swollen in order to remove the lip color every time I apply it.
Criticisms – While the lip color stands true to its claims in every possible way, I still don’t like it much. I’d tell you in detail. Firstly, the quantity of lip color is 2.3ml while the usual amount is 4-5ml. The inclusion of lip balm isn’t necessary as it is a simple hydrating lip balm with no additional feature. Therefore, the price you are paying feels pretty useless. I would have preferred a full quantity. Secondly, the staying power is good but when the struggle is real for removing the lip color – I would say it is not worth it. I do prefer long staying lipsticks but not something this painful. Lastly, the dryness is unfathomable.
OVERALL – Maybelline Super Stay Lipcolor Constantly Cabernet is plum-purple color with a thin consistency, great pigmentation, and matte finish along with a lip balm to apply a glossy layer on top. It is long-wearing and completely smudge-proof.

RECOMMENDATION – Personally, I would go for the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick than this range because I didn’t like the experience at all. Therefore I would not recommend it at all. However, if the concept of matte and long wearing lip color along with a lip balm suits you, this is a good one.
