Zendaya teased fans with the installments after the pandemic forced the second season to shut down a couple of days before filming was scheduled to begin in California. “We’re trying to figure out how to eventually be able to create a season 2 that we’re all really proud of and get all the best out of it that we want but also still being very safe,” Zendaya told Ben Platt when he guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “So, we might end up doing a little bridge episode. I don’t really know how to describe it, but an episode that we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment that can, I don’t know, give people something.”
HBO has also revealed that the episode is also Christmas-themed and features Rue (Zendaya) celebrating the holiday after the devastating end of season one. It’s titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always.”
In the first season finale, Rue relapsed after three months of sobriety. Her relapse was portrayed in what was essentially a moving, elaborate music video to the original song “All For Us.” Some fans worried that instead of a relapse it was Rue’s death accompanied by a marching band, but the show creator Sam Levinson quickly disapproved that fan-theory.
